I wrote about our half-failure to do a 24 hour detox, and I call it a half-failure because we didn’t see it through to the end (hello pizza!). We did half of it and I still felt a sense of accomplishment with that. I also liked the recipes we were given, and decided to riff on the breakfast bowl idea.
This is inspired by the 1 day detox Christian and I tried from DetoxDIY, but I’ve changed the recipe to something I will eat on a regular basis.
Are you people obsessed with superfoods? I’m partly there. I incorporated chia seeds into our diet about a year ago, liberally throwing them into smoothies and salads, cereal, and every once in a while a soup or some other such dinner with a self-congratulatory wink.
I have now officially been turned on to hemp seeds, and holy butt these little specks of nothing are packed full of good stuff. Complete protein? Check. Omega 3 and 6? Check.
Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), antioxidants, amino acids, fiber, iron, zinc, carotene, phospholipids, phytosterols, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin D, vitamin E, chlorophyll, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, copper, potassium, phosphorus, and enzymes? Checkitty check.
So what happens when you throw a bunch of superfoods into a bowl and consume them first thing in the morning? First of all you just feel like a damn superstar, but then I think they actually really do have some health benefits so expect to have more energy and immediately drop 10 lbs.
I don’t know. I’m fully on the superfoods bandwagon (acai berry smoothies are next), and as a 45 year old woman staring down the barrel of the SECOND HALF OF MY LIFE, I’m taking small steps to secure that I really am at the halfway point instead of on the edge of kickin’ it.

- 1 cup mixed raspberries and blueberries
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground flax seeds
- 1 teaspoon hemp seeds
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- 1 cup almond milk
Very Difficult Directions
- Rinse and dry berries and add them to a bowl
- Sprinkle all the yummy seeds on top
- Add almond milk
